Sporting Index introduction

Sporting Index is an online sportsbook which favours sports spread betting, and is undoubtedly most popular amongst lovers of US sports betting styles. However, the sportsbook also delivers solid gameplay to the Irish gambling sector, too. Players can expect to be able to use their Sporting Index account to pop along to Sporting Index’s casino site with their sportsbook account, too. Sporting Index is one of the older sportsbooks out there, having launched back in 2004.

About Sporting Index

Sporting Index may not be the most popular or well-known online sportsbook in the online gambling world, but it does offer quite a unique selection of games. Despite the fact that they tend to centralise on a US-style system of sports betting gambling, Sporting Index is actually only really open to players based in the United Kingdom and Ireland. They launched in 2004, offer gameplay in English, and players can use either UK pounds sterling, or euros to play with.

Sporting Index free bet welcome bonus and promotions

This is an online sportsbook which is not known for their overly generous bonuses and promotions. That does not mean to say that there aren’t any to be had, though.

New players are invited to pocket a €100 non-withdrawable free bets cash bonus to bet with then they open their account as a new player. Players are invited to enjoy spread betting for a total of 7 days with the €100 bonus. Anything not used by the end of that period will be removed from your account.

Sporting Index also runs a refer-a-friend bonus, which can see players who successfully invited up to 10 friends to join them at the sportsbook, pocket up to €1,000 in cash. When a friend makes three bets at €20 a pop, you can contact customer support to pocket your €100 bonus. As we’ve said, this can occur up to 10 times, giving you a potential €1,000 bonus with this offer.

Other promotions and bonuses at Sporting Index are few and far between.

Interface and appearance

Like most spread betting sportsbooks, the interface of Sporting Index is complicated, complex and cluttered. The main sporting markets that they offer are located across the top of the screen, with all your administrative and information pages located at the bottom of the lobby. Spread down either side of the lobby are results centre information, your betting slip, and other bits of far-flung data which may or may not be of any use to you at all.

Betting markets and odds

Betting markets are somewhat limited over at Sporting Index. This is a sportsbook which focuses mainly on football, tennis, The Masters, and of course, horse racing. Other betting markets available at this sportsbook include Australian Rules, baseball, basketball, boxing, cricket, darts, Gaelic football for those Irish sports fans, golf, greyhound racing, handball, ice hockey, motor racing, rugby league and union, snooker, tennis and even volleyball.

Odds are displayed in the American format, as is often the case with spread-betting. It may be possible to alter them, but we weren’t able to find a feature to do so.

Live betting and streaming

Players will note that live-streaming is not possible at Sporting Index. However, live in-play betting most certainly is. Only a handful of sports are considered valid for in-play betting. Any upcoming in-play bets will be featured on the left-hand side of the ‘all sports’ tab. However, you can check out the latest in-play bets by clicking on the in-play tab from the menu bar.

Mobile betting

Sporting Index’s mobile betting platform offers in-play bets, quick-filter access to sporting events, and all your favourite sporting events under one tab. Sporting Index has not developed an app for mobile users. Instead, tablet and smartphone users are required to visit Sporting Index’s webpage on their device’s browser to access the page. Due to the cluttered look of Sporting Index’s lobby, this isn’t a 100% comfortable affair, though.

Cash out

As best as we can figure, Sporting Index doesn’t offer an early cash out option on live in-play bets. This is quite common with spread-betting websites.

Players can deposit, wager and withdraw using VISA, Maestro, MasterCard, Skrill, VISA Electron, and Neteller at this online sportsbook.

Pros / Cons
  • Both Spread Betting and Fixed Odds Betting available
  • Generous welcome bonuses for both sections
  • Easy to use online betting site
  • Not as many betting offers as some other bookmakers

Licence, security and customer service

Sporting Index is licensed out of the United Kingdom, which means they readily accept Irish players. The sportsbook may have a cluttered look, but it is at least secure and safe. Customer support is available via toll-free telephone (for all UK and Irish players), toll-charged telephone for international users, e-mail and live chat, whilst an FAQ guide is also present to assist you in other, simpler ways.
